Etta was a your typical happy, go lucky Golden Retriever. By 9 months she had drove her family mad with all the puppy behavior! Pulling on the leash, mouthing their hands and arms, was super excitable when guests came over and would JUMP and almost knock them down, she would dart off if she saw something or someone outside, they also had to pick her up to load and unload her from the car which was getting very tough since she kept growing, and CALM was a foreign concept to this young pup.
They were at a loss. She was a good girl, just a bit uncontrollable at times. They were also very concerned about Etta being around the young grandkids. She would never intentionally hurt them, but she was so excitable and had no concept of how big she actually was. Plus she wasn’t done growing.
In just a few short weeks, Etta went from a whirlwind of excitement to a calm, respectful family member. She would calmly greet all their guests, including the hyper grandchildren. They were able to take her downtown without her pulling on the leash and enjoy a peaceful meal on a restaurant patio. They were able to watch Television and read without her mouthing and biting at their arms and hands. They no longer had to worry about wiping Etta’s gross slobber off their arms and hands either. What a relief! We also taught her how to relax in the car and to jump in and out when told. But the best part was not only did she have a solid recall, meaning she would come back as soon as they would say “come,” but that they didn’t even use it that much because she stopped running away!
We are so proud of Etta and her family! Way to go!
